"I have been working out at varying intensities for over twenty years. Approximately ten years ago I met Gina Berta as an instructor to the first spin class I ever attended. By the end of the class I was totally addicted to spinning, as it seemed to be the most intense cardio exercise I had ever encountered. After attending a few more classes my enthusiasms for this form of exercise did not diminish, however, I was exposed to some other instructors and quickly realized Gina was the best instructor I had come across. Her desire to motivate the class and the style in which she varied the exercise caused me to look forward to each and every class she taught.
After attending a number of her classes, I decided to try her as a personal trainer. As good as I felt she was at running a class, I found her to be a better trainer. Approximately three years ago, I decided to participate in a charity bicycle ride from the World Trade Center site to the Pentagon (some 280 miles). I had not been on a bicycle in a serious manner since my teenage years and only had about six weeks to train for the trip. Once again I turned to Gina for her advice for both nutrition as well as exercises that would be appropriate training for the task I faced. When I did the ride, I not only accomplished my goal of completing the three day ride, but finished in the top ten percent of riders due largely to the advice provided by Gina.
I can say without equivocation, whether working with Gina in a one on one situation as a personal trainer or attending one of her many well designed classes you will not find a better leader or more inspirational person than she.

"As these stories usually start, just a mere two years ago I was your average, out-of-shape, overweight and overworked attorney. The quintessential couch potato, I was stressed out with the demands of operating a busy law firm, raising two small children and suffering from chronic back pain from an auto accident a decade earlier.

My personal fitness "rock bottom" came the morning I bent over to tie my shoes and my back muscles were so stiff and atrophied that I could barely reach my feet! Incredibly, I was OLD at 38!

Since my wife had always been into fitness and was a member of a local gym, with her constant "urging", I finally conceded that I would give exercise a shot on a trial basis. Having not been in a gym in more than five years, all the newfangled equipment totally confused and intimidated me. I saw pulleys and cables everywhere in a complicated arrangement of metal and didn't have a clue of where to begin. I saw words like "Pilates" and thought it had something to do with the biblical figure Pontius Pilate! The first machine I sat on I thought I was working my abdominal muscles until a stranger came up and told me I was sitting on it backwards and it was for my back! How embarrassing! Time for a personal trainer before I got seriously hurt!

A number of false stops and starts along the way ultimately led to me to train with Gina Berta. Gina has 23 years of multi-faceted experience in the fitness industry. She is certified in personal training, Pilates, Yoga, Spinning, low-impact type classes like Body Pump, massage therapy, has run marathons and is well-versed in nutrition. Her qualifications astounded me. What was more astounding after a while were the results I was seeing. Even more than weight loss (down nearly twenty pounds and three pant sizes!), my primary goal was to recover my back strength which, from my past injury, was now frighteningly radiating into my legs and other parts of my body.

Although I initially resisted what I deemed to be a "girlie workout", over the next few months, our intensive Pilates regimen practically cured the chronic back pain I had suffered with for more than a decade. I had previously tried physical therapy, massage therapy, hydrotherapy tubs, special mattresses and other nonsense but nothing "hit my core" as they say, like Gina's Pilates. As I became more impressed with her abilities, that old line from Billy Joel's hit "Piano Man" kept popping into my head. In case you don't remember the story, early in his career Billy Joel paid the bills by playing piano in a local bar. Eventually his talent became apparent and patrons began asking him "Man what are YOU doing here?". Well, I had the same reaction with Gina. "Why don't you have your own fitness studio?", I asked her time and again. She gave me some lame excuses about never getting organized, finding the right space, securing financing etc. I said "I'm your man, Gina. You literally eat, sleep and BREATHE Fitness! You were born to have your own fitness studio". At that moment Breathe Fitness Studio was born!
